Chinese Pop Song "大日子" (Da Rizi, Big Day) Made in Malaysia

February, 13, 2010

Song title: 大日子
(Dà Rìzi, Big Day)

This is a Chinese New Year song requested by QuaChee. It's a very good song with awesome Chinese New Year atmosphere and spirit. Love it!

The song is singed by 29 Malaysia young local singers at Ipoh Old Town.
It has been widely promoting and playing in shops, night markets, radios and every corner in Malaysia.

Today is Chinese New Year Eve. I miss the New Year Eve meal in Taiwan. I hope you all get nice meals with your family. Happy Chinese New Year~~~

冬至 (Dongzhi, The Winter Solstice) and Chinese Children Song "賣湯圓" ( Mai Tangyuan, Selling Rice Balls )

December 22, 2009

Today is 冬至 Dōngzhì (The Winter Solstice Festival), one of the most important festivals celebrated by the Chinese and other East Asians, a time for the family to get together. Many families are making and eating 湯圓 (汤圆 tāngyuán rice balls) which symbolize reunion.

I didn't get a chance to eat 湯圓 today, I'll have to go to the Asian market to shop some.
Here are some 湯圓 photos which make me 流口水 ( liú kǒushuǐ drooling):
1. 汤圆
2. 茼蒿 豬肉 鹹 湯圓
(茼蒿 猪肉 咸 汤圆 Tónghāo Zhūròu Xián Tāngyuán Crowndaisy Pork Salty Rice Balls)

Here's a Children song "賣湯圓" ( 卖 汤圆 Mài Tāngyuán Selling Rice Balls ) I'd like to share with you. Thanks to Bananaz reminded me the song.

The 小二哥 ( xiǎoèr gē, long time ago in China, people called the server in restaurants
小二 or 小二哥. 小二哥 is more polite.) in the video is cute. The way he throws the rice balls in the pot is pretty cool though it's probably edited.
There's a white flag with "酒" ( jiǔ wine ) on it in the video. It means a place that serve food.
In the beginning of the video, it says
卖汤丸 Mài Tāngwán. 丸 wán is also balls or pills.

Yesterday was
Shuang Shi Jie (Double Tenth Day), Taiwan's 98-year-old birthday. Due to Typhoon Morakot in August, the government canceled the celebration activities they used to do every year. They use the funds for the activities to help the disaster reconstruction. I think they did the right thing.

Well, it's one of my favorite festivals - "Zhōngqiū Jié" ( Moon Festival or Mid-Autumn Festival ), falls on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar.
Why? Because those mooncakes and pomelos! But most importantly, being together with our love and family while enjoying all kinds of fine food and appreciating the beautiful full moon.

There are different versions of stories behind the festival. Please click on the links above to visit.

One of the fun things to do is to make pomelo hat for your pets, kids or yourself, visit here, here and here. Pomelo hat creation, visit here.

The best song for this day is of course "Yuèliàng Dàibiǎo Wǒde Xīn " (The Moon Represents My Heart). Visit HERE. But I'll post another song next time.

Vocabularies of the day:

Zhōngqiū Jié: Mid-Autumn Festival
Zhōngqiū Jié kuàilè: Happy Mid-Autumn Festival
yuèbǐng: mooncake
yòuzi: pomelo
yòuzimào: pomelo hat

Conversation of the day:

Nǚhái ( The girl ): Yuèliàng hǎo měi a! ( The moon is so beautiful! )
Nánhái ( The boy ): Wǒ dài nǐ qù! ( I'll take you there! )
Nǚhái ( The girl ): Zhēn de ma? ( Really? )
Yuèliàng ( The moon ):
Zhù nǐ yǒu gè měihǎo de Zhōngqiū! ( Wish you have a fine Mid-Autumn Festival! )
