Well, it's one of my favorite festivals - "Zhōngqiū Jié" ( Moon Festival or Mid-Autumn Festival ), falls on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar.
Why? Because those mooncakes and pomelos! But most importantly, being together with our love and family while enjoying all kinds of fine food and appreciating the beautiful full moon.

There are different versions of stories behind the festival. Please click on the links above to visit.

One of the fun things to do is to make pomelo hat for your pets, kids or yourself, visit here, here and here. Pomelo hat creation, visit here.

The best song for this day is of course "Yuèliàng Dàibiǎo Wǒde Xīn " (The Moon Represents My Heart). Visit HERE. But I'll post another song next time.

Vocabularies of the day:

Zhōngqiū Jié: Mid-Autumn Festival
Zhōngqiū Jié kuàilè: Happy Mid-Autumn Festival
yuèbǐng: mooncake
yòuzi: pomelo
yòuzimào: pomelo hat

Conversation of the day:

Nǚhái ( The girl ): Yuèliàng hǎo měi a! ( The moon is so beautiful! )
Nánhái ( The boy ): Wǒ dài nǐ qù! ( I'll take you there! )
Nǚhái ( The girl ): Zhēn de ma? ( Really? )
Yuèliàng ( The moon ):
Zhù nǐ yǒu gè měihǎo de Zhōngqiū! ( Wish you have a fine Mid-Autumn Festival! )

It's 教師節 (Jiaoshi Jie, Teachers' Day)!

September 28, 2009

It's Teachers' Day in Taiwan! Do you have Teachers' Day in your country?
What do you do on that day?

In Taiwan, we show our appreciation to our teachers mostly with cards.
There's also festival celebration in the temples of Confucius around the island and overseas, known as the "Grand Ceremony Dedicated to Confucius" or "Confucius Memorial Service".
Confucius is known as "Zhìshèngxiānshī" (The Most Sage Venerated Late Teacher) and also "Wànshìshībiǎo" (Role Model for Teachers through the Ages). His teachings and philosophy have deeply influenced many Asian people's thoughts and life.
Below is a video of one of the "Confucius Memorial Service" in Taipei Confucius Temple and one in San Francisco in 2008.

Video title: "Taiwan Hongguan Dianshi TMACTV Jikongdadian"
( Taiwan Macroview TV TMACTV Confucius Memorial Ceremony)
The 3 Chinese characters on the screen before you play the video: "Bayiwu"
( Eight-Row Dance).
CLICK HERE then scroll down to "Worship" section to see the detail.

Conversation of the day ( pinyin & translation ):

Xuesheng men: Qinai de laoshi Jiaoshijie kuaile!
( Students: Dear teacher, Happy Teachers' Day! )

Laoshi: Xiexie nimen!
( Teacher: Thanks to you all! )

Xuesheng men: Zhe shi song gei nin de kapian.( Students: This is a card for you.)Laoshi: Wa! Xiexie nimen de kapian!
( Teacher: Wow! Thanks for your card! )

七夕情人節 (Qixi Qingren Jie, Chinese Valentine's Day) And Chinese Calendar

August 22, 2009

** Tips: The reds are linked to related pages. Click on them to visit. **

An easy way to learn Chinese is to read my post, practice the Chinese that I post then find someone to talk to. Maybe I'll open an online practice hour so you can practice live with me in the future. Let me know if you like this. ^___^

There's a special day coming up=> Chinese Valentine's Day (Double Seventh Day, Double Seventh Festival) is also known as Qixi Festival!

It falls on August 26 this year which is 4 days away!

It's called
Double Seventh Day because it's on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month on the Chinese calendar.

There's a beautiful love story about this day. You can read it
Here.

How many roses would you like to prepare for this special day? How about a large bouquet of 999 pieces of roses? Check out Here.

Here's a calendar that is showing Chinese lunar dates:

Here's a little explanation and the pinyin for the Chinese characters on the calendar:

Conversation of the day ( pinyin & translation ):
A: Ni hao piaoliang. (You are so beautiful)
B: Xiexie ni! (Thank you!)
A: Bu keqi. (You are welcome.)
A: Wo ai ni. (I love you.)
B: Wo ye ai ni. (I love you, too.)
A: Qingren Jie quile! (Happy Valentine's Day!)
