My mom loves to listen to Teresa Teng! She said Teresa is the best female singer of all times! I think I have to agree with her. Teresa's voice is really wonderful - not many Chinese singers nowadays can sing as well as her!

And this classic song - I think - is the only Chinese song I can sing in karaoke without looking at the hanyu pinyin lyrics I always bring with me. Haha!

But why did Teresa pronounce 'de' as 'di' when we always pronounce it as 'de'?

Jeannie said...

I totally agree with your mom and you, Foongpc. No one could compare with Teresa so far.
I think when we sing a song, sometimes we pronounce "di" instead of "de" is to make it be in rhyme or more smoothly. In this song, most "de" followed by a syllable with "i", I think maybe that's why. I also think it could depend on personal habit as well.

Oh, thanks for the explanation regarding the 'de' and 'di'! : )

You are more than welcome, Foongpc!

This song is really very sweet. It is very hard for modern Canadians to feel so sweetly and deeply in love.

Wow...thanks, Cinnamon! My pleasure~~~
